Dorset Junior Squash County Closed 2018 Report

The Dorset Junior County Closed, which was sponsored by Karakal, was held at the West Hants Club over the weekend of September 15/16 producing some fantastic squash. Day 1 saw a dozen Under 9 boys and girls kicking off the tournament. For most this was their first competition and by the end, they were all playing better squash, learning more with every rally. This group of boys shows potentially how strong Dorset could be in the years to come. It was a Two Riversmeet final, with Riley Davies beating Sam Tiller-Woods 11/8 11/8 in a hard hitting and closely contested match. The U9 girls played in a round robin box, with Sienna Hancock scoring a maximum 60 points to claim her first county title.

In the U15 boys, James Campbell-Wynter was crowned county champion beating David Offer 3-0.

The U17 girls produced some hard fought squash. Ellie Corben was unbeaten and crowned county champion. Lucy Hill and Eve Bailey had an exciting battle for 2nd and 3rd position and probably the most evenly matched game of the tournament with Lucy just sneaking the 5th set 16-14.

Oliver Moffat, from Dorchester, cruised to his first county title in the U17s without dropping a game.

The most notable performance of the day came in the U19 boys from West Hants player, Charlie Hill, who won his second county title with a convincing win against Miles Ewins in the final match.

Day 2 started with twenty boys participating in the U11s and U13s, producing a morning of exciting and hard fought squash. From boys who were new to the game to those who were much more experienced, it was wonderful to see such a display of talented youngsters playing with passion and gusto. Logan Macey stormed through, without dropping a game, to become the U13s county champion whilst Oliver Galloway produced a fantastic performance to beat the number 1 seed Jack Harris in the U11s final.

The U11, U13, U15 and U19 girls also produced some super squash.  Lisa Stewart beat Rosie Burnand in the Girls U11 final whilst the U13s saw Charlotte Jones clinch the title. Amy Campbell-Wynter, who is currently ranked 15th in the England U15s, proved just too strong for both Ellie Corben and Georgia Fordham in the U15 and U19 girls respectively.
