It is with great sadness that I have to inform you I have sold Weymouth Squash & Fitness Centre after 16 years at The Club.
After nearly 2 years of extensive negotiations last Thursday I shook hands with Declan and his team from Active 4 Less who will take over the running of The Club from Monday 01 August.
Declan’s plans for The Club are extensive and will bring a first class fitness facility to Weymouth. Unfortunately I have to inform you that Squash does not form part of that facility.
With this in mind I have made enquiries at Osprey Leisure Centre on Portland, they have 2 excellent glass-back squash courts and are more than happy to facilitate our teams in the Dorset League should Gary and Andy wish to continue running them. If Janet wants to negotiate and continue with Monday Night Leagues I am sure they would also love to accommodate depending on player support.
The Club has been up for sale for nearly 5 years now and unfortunately there were no enquiries to purchase as a squash club during this time. Whilst it is a relief that I have finally sold it I will of course be sad to see it go. With this in mind I have arranged at short notice a leaving party this Saturday 30 July. There will be a Karaoke Disco from 9pm to midnight followed by The Crack until 3am. I would like to invite you all to join me as members, non-members but most importantly friends.
I have played for some 25+ years at The Club and I know many have played for longer and whilst I do not want to single out people in particular there are some I would like to thank personally.
Ali who has run the Club in my absence for the last few years, thank you so much Ali for all your hard work. Gary & Janet Biles and Andy Gilks who have assisted me with team squash, events, Monday night leagues and the website. All my staff over the years and of course Kev Wilby who gives me such a welcome when I am at The Club and assists in the Gym and behind the bar when we are busy.
Thank you all so much for the battles on court and the fun and laughter we have had in the past, from an England Squash Tournament to Easter Festivals and many other Events and Parties.
I wish Declan and his Team every success for the future.
