The second round of the County Cup took place in various locations on the weekend of November 22/23.
Our Dorset youngsters had mixed results but the U17 Boys achieved the best of any Dorset Boys Squash Team so far.
Some high quality squash was played at the West Hants Club who were the Girls U13 host. Dorset’s team was made up of Maia Pannell, Amy Campbell-Wynter and Ellie Corben.
The girls battled hard against teams from Sussex, Kent and SE Wales beating the latter but losing to the other two teams.
The Boys U13 team travelled to Abingdon Squash Club in Oxfordshire. Though coming 3rd in a group of 4 other counties, they beat the eventual winners Oxfordshire 3-2. They also beat Warwickshire, but lost to South East Wales.
The boys took a squad of 7 players, Luca Campbell-Wynter, James Campbell-Wynter, Noah Campbell-Wynter, Joe Pannell, Craig Goldsmith, Ellis Jennings and Ahren Gupta from 4 different clubs
( 2 Riversmeet Leisure Centre, West Hants Club, Ferndown Leisure and David Lloyd Ringwood).
Star performer was Luca Campbell-Wynter, winning all 3 of his matches at 1st seed.
The Boys U15, made up of Toby Jane, Miles Ewins, Michael Rides, Oliver Moffat and Julian Abbott (from West Hants, Ferndown and Dorchester) , travelled to Surrey where they fought hard, but lost all their matches against Surrey, Hampshire and Somerset, coming 4th overall.
The U17 Boys travelled to Bristol with a squad of 6 (Phil Sargeant, Charlie Sawyer, Liam Alldridge, Charlie Hill, Ben Smith and Joe Cook) from West Hants, Two Riversmeet, David Lloyd Ringwood and Bridport. The boys beat Avon and Somerset, losing narrowly to Oxon. Second place has earned them a place in the Inter County Trophy Finals on the 18th of January 2015 against Cambridge, Oxford and Durham and Cleveland. This is the farthest that any Dorset Boys Team has ever got. Fantastic result!
