Match Report - Dorset vs Cornwall

An off-form Lara played a nervy game at one and was unable to get into her rhythm in the first three games.  Errors allowed Nicola Hardwick to stay in the match and go 2 - 1 up.  She relaxed in the fourth getting better length and width and forcing errors from Nicola. The fifth was close but Lara won it to win the match 3-2.

Justine went behind in the first but recovered well and served out the first game.  She moved around the court well and served and volleyed to win the second string match comfortably in 3.

Kirsty played a positive game with good aggression and length to easily win the third match and the tie for Dorset 3-0

Match Report - Dorset vs Avon

The surprise addition of Somerset's Rhianne O'Donnell (ESR ranked 12) to the Avon Team gave them the edge in a close match where Dorset played with determination and nearly caused an upset.

Lara was overpowered by Rhianne in the first two games but rallied in the third and found some remarkably tight returns, drives and drops to win the game 11-5.  Rhianne stepped up her game and won the fourth by the same margin but it was a creditable attempt and no shame losing to someone ranked over 40 places above Lara.

Justine had a really close match against a much improved Natasha Burrett with two of the four games going beyond 10 all.  Justine hung in despite Natasha having game point in the first to go one up but Natasha comfortably won the next two to set up a close and exciting fourth with the lead changing hads several times and Justine being unlucky not to force the match to a fifth.

Kirsty played confidently and with power and good length to easily beat Emma in three.  The tie was won by Avon but only by two points 11 to 9.

A Gloucestershire team depleted by injuries and absences through school trips and other competitions was too weak to deal with the Dorset Team who all easily won their matches in three.

This was great play by the girls again and they deserved their wins. Well Done. J

U19 Boys

Team Ryan McKechnie, Arthur May, Tom Trower. The boys traveled to Redlands squash club, Avon, to play in the league decider against Avon and Somerset. Dorset were one point in the lead from the first round matches and knew that they had to beat Somerset convincingly to stand a chance of winning the league. Tom gave them a good start, winning in three short games to give Dorset maximum points. Ryan had a tough start against ESR 76 ranked Luke Bishop who took the first two games Ryan then seamed to find the extra shot that clinched the vital 3rd game 15/13, the 4th saw controlled play from Ryan  who then carried it on into the 5th to win the match 3~2.

With Dorset 2~0 up it was down to Arthur to get as many points as possible to help with the win. This game was a crowed pleaser as both boys had chances. Arthur had a chance to win in the 4th but his opponent fought back to make it 2 all, the 5th was a battle with both boys wanting the win but with more determination Arthur  took the 5th 11/8 and gave Dorset the extra points.

The next match against Avon was the league decider as Avon had beaten Somerset earlier in the day 11~ 8 and were the only ones now to challenge Dorset who had to get 6 points to guarantee the top spot.

Tom again made a good start for the team to win 3~1. Ryan came up against a very strong Conrad Tyma who also beat Luke Bishop 3~0 earlier in the day. Dorset were now leading by one point and needing one more point it was left to Arthur who did not disappoint, his 3~1 win gave the Dorset team 11 points and 1st place.

 Well done boys.
