The u17 mixed was another early start with teams traveling form Glos and Cornwall. The friendly atmosphere
from these young players showed on the conduct on court, even thought there were some very tight matches there was good sportsmanship throughout the day.
Dorset v Glos Blue
Liam was the first to do play, unfortunately his match was very short. After winning the first game his opponent turned an ankle and was unable to continue giving Dorset the points. Although Kate moved her very fast, hard hitting opponent around the court and it was his strength that just gave him the edge to win. With the match at one all, Ross had a marathon 5 setter with Fred Peace that had the balcony on its feet with oo's, ah's, and "how did he get that!" The result was a 3~2 win to Ross (9/11, 19/17, 11/8, 8/11, 13/11). Gus played a well controlled game against the very experienced Emily Penkett who has a national ranking of 10. He could not relax as this player could hit the ball as hard as any boy as she showed in the second game nearly taking it, just losing 12~10. Gus eventually winning 3-0. Another mature game from the much improved Karl who is in the top 50 now in the national rankings, winning 3-0.
This gave the team an overall win of 4~1 21 point ~12 points
Dorset v Glos Red
Kate played another boy but this time she was able to keep pace with him and was able to beat him 3~2.
Liam started off his second game well but was unable to keep it going and was eventually beaten 3~1
Ross came up another top 10 national ranked girl who was able to use all of her skill to just edge him out with a 3~2 win to give the Glos red team a 2~1 lead.
Gus had an international ranked girl player in Ellie Lake (ESR ranking 1) who's skill and strength had Gus moving all around the court. The 11/9, 11/7, 11/5 win for Gus did not do justice to this very competitive match.
Karl's second game was very close as the match hung on the out come of this game. Winning the first Karl settled into the second but his opponent fought back and pushed him right to the end as the next two games were 12/10 and 14/12 to Karl who win the second match for Dorset 3~2 20 point 15 points
Dorset 3~21 points v Cornwall 2~15 points
This was another hard fort match that had Kate, Liam and Gus having five setters, unfortunately Kate and Liam lost out. Ross and Karl played well as they both won to give Dorset a 3-2 match win and put them on top of the league table.
Well done
