I finished my last report saying ‘'we are going to need all our stars next year when we look to battle with the ‘big boys' somewhere up north!!.'' Well.....it didn't happen.
However, I am indebted with all the members of the squad that turned out to represent the County, brilliant attitude, fearless in battle....all that sort of stuff.
There were noticeable performances from Charlie Campbell and Pete Collete in making their formidable opponents really work for victories in all the matches they played. All the squad played all 3 matches over the weekend, so everyone was up against it both physically as well against the overall standard of play; the captain had the pleasure of playing the England No 1, followed by the Scottish No1 and to round it off the RAF No 1 ! Great to see Phil Smith get his first County cap and enjoy the experience.
Looking ahead, it was damage limitation for Dorset in this first stage, we still have a chance of remaining in the Premier if we can get our act together for Stage 2 in the New Year, that will mean converting a team list on paper into action on the squash court.
