End of Season Junior Tournament Report

West Hants hosted a junior tournament for our young up and coming players yesterday morning. There were 27 players, from West Hants, 2RM and B’mth Sports, aging from 7-12 years. Every one played 3 matches, totalling more than 40 matches during the morning! Well done to all! A great display of squash.

Group A winner Logan Macey beat Ethan Franklin 2-0
Group B winner (girls group) Charlotte Jones beat Isabella Rowan 2-0
Group C winner Guy Popper beat Sunny Bignall 2-0
Group D winner Isaac Watts, runner up Cameron Knijff

During the afternoon, Dorset Squash hosted an End of Season tournament and presentation for all those who represented the county this season. Again, a great exhibition of squash by some of our top juniors.
Group A winner Luca C-W, beat Maia Pannell 3-1
Group B winner James C-W beat his sister Amy!

The afternoon ended with our annual presentation. Trophies were given out by David Williams;
Dorset Junior U13 Girls Player of the Year 2016-17 – Amy Campbell-Wynter – A well deserved award for Amy. She played with gusto and 100% determination. She is a pleasure to coach and she is a great role model to her peers.

Dorset Junior U15 Player of the Year 2016-17 – Joe Pannell – Joe had some great results in the inter counties this season. One of the younger players, he really did step up to the mark, playing at no 2. He constantly battled hard and was always on hand to help his team mates when needed. He helped the U15’s steer their way in to another county plate final. Great work Joe!

Dorset Junior U19 Girls Player of the Year 2016-17 – Maia Pannell; heading up the U19’s team at the tender age of 13 years, playing against strong opponents some of who were 5 years her senior. A complete credit to the dedication she has for her squash. Ranked 3 nationally in the U15’s and finishing runner up in the Junior Nationals.

Dorset Junior U19 Player of the Year 2016-17 – Toby Jane; played some excellent squash, always gave his best and always listened to the advice that he was given. He also showed great commitment to the squad, travelling 100’s of miles to represent Dorset. Well done Toby.

Club player trophy – Luca C-W; helps out regularly at 2RM with the junior sessions and squash camps. He now plays regularly in the men’s team and is progressing up the internal leagues. He is also playing for one of the senior teams in the Dorset league.

Biles Trophy – Abi Russell; made her debut in to the U13 girl’s team last October. She was quite nervous but she really blossomed throughout the inter counties tournament. She listened to the instructions given and really started to look like a player who was placing the ball around the court making her opponent work for every point. Keep up the good work Abi!

Lanz Trophy – Sophie Sawyer; always supports the junior events, even though she is now one of the older ones! She always plays with a smile and we feel that she has developed in to a very competent player. She certainly gives the boys a run for their money on the Monday night training sessions!
