Dorset under-17 boys produced one of the best team results for a county junior squash side in recent years by finishing runners up in the National Inter-Counties Trophy at Cambridge University.
The five boys – Liam Alldridge, Joe Cook, Charlie Hill, Phil Sargeant and Charlie Sawyer (pictured left to right) – won a place in the trophy finals after playing in two earlier rounds of the Engalnd Squash competition.
The Dorset team beat Cambridgeshire 3-2, but lost 4-1 to Durham and Cleveland in the final.
Dorset’s first seed Sargeant won both his matches 3-0. Oxfordshire beat Cambridgeshire in the play-off for third and fourth places.
In the first match of the day against Cambridgeshire, second seed Sawyer lost the opening game 11-3, but recovered to win the next three, 11-4, 11-6, 11-3.
Third and fifth seeds Alldridge and Cook, both won close matches against Cambridgeshire 3-2.
Dorset organisers are holding a ‘Squash Morning’ for newcomers on February 28. Contact your nearest club for details.
